Over the years, Toyota has emerged as a true leader in offering hybrid vehicles. In a startling revelation, the Japanese auto giant revealed yesterday that it was working hard to introduce at least a hybrid option across its entire lineup by 2020. Besides, it also has a plan of selling at least 5 million hybrid vehicles within the next five years at the rate of 1 million cars each year.
After the automaker launched its first hybrid model in 1997, it has already sold over 2.68 million gasoline-electric hybrid vehicles globally. Prius remains the best selling vehicle of the class. The hybrid business in Japan saw a surge last year following government’s subsidy approval favoring the hybrid vehicles.
